GRE
I went into London yesterday and took my GRE. Thanks to the wonders of computer-based testing, I got my results for the math and verbal sections straightaway; the writing sections still have to be read. Out of a possible 800 apiece, I got:
560 on the maths
740 on the verbal
I’m pretty darn happy with these scores. I’ll still probably take it again, because I think I can do better, and I’m almost positive that my writing score is going to be awful, but overall, it’s a lot better than I was expecting. :-)

Well done! I think your scores sound really good, so unless you really bomb the written portion, I would think those scores would be more than sufficient. What kind of scores do you need to get into your first choice grad school?
Hope you’re doing well and are ready for your trip!
Well, the programme that I’m most interested in, Tufts, doesn’t require the GRE. UC Santa Barbara’s average GRE score is 1200, so I’ve surmounted that. American University averages a higher math score than I got, but a much lower verbal score, but they also average a higher undergrad GPA than I received.
Basically, I’m worried about my lack of academic background in this area. Perhaps if I get really smashing test scores, it will make up for some of the rest?
Will you be interviewed for places on these programs? Do you have to write an essay or a personal statement for your applications? A lot of times, I think those things make quite a big difference. It sounds like you’re doing a lot to prepare yourself and to get some experience, so I think you still have a really good shot at getting a place on one of these courses.
